PARAMEDICAL AFTERCARE

Paramedical tattooing heals differently than a traditional tattoo. Find your service below and follow the steps for your treatment. Always follow any individualized instructions Moxie gives you at your appointment if they differ from this general guidance.

Scar, Stretch Mark & Areola Restoration (NAC)

Your fresh tattoo is a healing wound. Clean hands, gentle care, and protecting the area from contamination and friction are the priorities. Follow the dressing instructions you were given at your appointment.

FIRST 24-48 HOURS

  • Wash your hands before touching the area. Do not allow other people or pets to touch the fresh tattoo.

  • Use the dressing for the length of time instructed by your artist. If it becomes loose, saturated, dirty, or otherwise compromised, follow the replacement/removal instructions you were given.

  • When cleansing is appropriate, use clean hands, lukewarm water, and a gentle fragrance-free cleanser. Do not scrub. Pat dry with a clean disposable paper towel or allow to air dry.

  • Apply only the aftercare product and amount recommended by your artist. More product is not better; heavy occlusion can trap excess moisture.

WHILE THE SURFACE IS HEALING

  • Do not pick, scratch, peel, or intentionally remove flakes or light crusting.

  • Avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, baths, saunas, and soaking the tattoo. Avoid natural bodies of water until the skin is healed.

  • Avoid tight clothing, repetitive rubbing, heavy friction, and activities that repeatedly stretch or irritate the treatment area.

  • Avoid exfoliants, retinoids, acids, scrubs, fragranced products, self-tanner, and non-approved topical products on the healing tattoo.

  • Avoid direct sun and tanning beds during healing. Once fully healed, regular UV protection helps reduce fading and color change.

  • Use clean clothing and linens against the area and avoid unnecessary touching.

WHAT CAN BE NORMAL

  • Temporary redness, mild swelling, tenderness, warmth immediately after the procedure, and a darker/brighter appearance than the final healed color.

  • Light flaking or fine crusting as the surface heals.

  • An uneven, dull, or temporarily lighter-looking stage before the pigment and skin settle.

SCAR CAMOUFLAGE

  • Protect the scar from friction and tension while the tattooed surface is healing.

  • Do not massage, exfoliate, microneedle, laser, inject, or otherwise treat the scar unless your qualified provider and tattoo artist have advised that it is appropriate and the tattoo is fully healed.

  • Scar tissue can look temporarily more prominent after tattooing because of redness and swelling. This does not represent the final result.

Scar tissue heals differently: Pigment may settle unevenly in scar tissue. Camouflage is commonly built gradually, and a later session may be used to refine the color after the tissue has completely settled.

STRETCH MARK CAMOUFLAGE

  • Minimize repeated stretching, rubbing, or compression of the treated skin during early healing.

  • Do not tan or use self-tanner on the area while it heals. After healing, remember that surrounding natural skin may tan while implanted pigment does not respond in the same way.

  • Do not compare the fresh pigment to your surrounding skin immediately after treatment; redness and the healing response can temporarily distort the color match.

Color settling: Stretch-mark tissue can hold pigment unpredictably. A healed evaluation - not the first few days - determines whether additional blending is appropriate.

AREOLA RESTORATION (NAC)

  • Wear clean, soft clothing that does not rub or compress the fresh tattoo. Follow any bra/dressing guidance provided specifically for your reconstruction and tattoo.

  • Avoid pressure, scratching, friction, and adhesive products not specifically recommended for the treated breast/chest area.

  • If you have had breast reconstruction, radiation, implants, flap surgery, or reduced sensation, inspect the area visually as directed because numbness can make irritation harder to feel.

  • Continue to follow any ongoing instructions from your breast surgeon, plastic surgeon, oncology team, or other treating clinician.

After breast reconstruction: Contact your surgical/medical team promptly if you develop concerning breast swelling, spreading redness, drainage, fever, skin breakdown, or another change that could involve reconstructed tissue or an implant.

WHEN TO CONTACT A HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONAL

  • Redness, warmth, swelling, or pain is increasing or spreading rather than gradually improving.

  • You notice pus-like drainage, foul odor, red streaking, fever, chills, or feel unwell.

  • You develop significant blistering, hives, facial swelling, trouble breathing, or another possible serious allergic reaction. Seek urgent/emergency care for breathing difficulty or severe symptoms.

  • You have any symptom that feels unusual or concerning, especially if you have recently had surgery, cancer treatment, radiation, or have a condition that affects healing.

YOUR HEALED RESULT

  • Do not judge the final pigment while the skin is actively healing. The color commonly softens and changes as the surface recovers.

  • Paramedical tattooing may require more than one session. Scarred or altered tissue can retain pigment differently from unaffected skin.

  • Do not schedule additional tattooing over the area until it is fully healed and your artist has assessed the result.

Inkless Nue Regen / Nue Bright

NO DIRECT OR INTENTIONAL UV EXPOSURE TO THE TREATED AREA FOR AT LEAST 2 MONTHS

FIRST 24 HOURS

Keep the treated area clean and dry. Avoid unnecessary touching, rubbing, scratching, tight or rough clothing, direct sun, heavy exercise and excessive sweating. Use clean clothing and bedding and keep pets away from the treated area.

24-48 HOURS

Begin gentle cleansing as instructed. Wash your hands first, then cleanse with lukewarm water and a gentle fragrance-free cleanser. Do not scrub. Pat dry. Continue avoiding swimming, soaking, saunas, steam rooms, excessive sweating and friction.

NUE REGEN / NUE BRIGHT POST-CARE

On clean, completely dry skin, apply a thin, even layer of the Nue Regen or Nue Bright post-care serum recommended for your treatment. Apply 2-3 times daily, or as directed by Moxie Tattoo. Apply gently and allow it to absorb fully.

WHILE HEALING

Do not pick, scratch, peel or exfoliate. Avoid retinoids, acids/exfoliants, scented or harsh products, self-tanner and unapproved products on the area. Avoid pools, ocean/lakes, hot tubs, saunas/steam rooms and activities causing heavy sweating or repeated friction until sufficiently healed.

SUN & UV

Avoid direct or intentional UV exposure for a minimum of 2 months, including tanning beds. Keep the area covered and protected. Once sufficiently healed for sunscreen, use broad-spectrum high-SPF sun protection and continue diligent protection long term.

WHAT CAN BE NORMAL

Temporary redness, tenderness, mild swelling, sensitivity, itching, dryness, flaking or peeling may occur. The area can change in appearance throughout healing before settling.

WHEN TO GET HELP

Contact Moxie Tattoo with aftercare questions. Increasing or spreading redness, worsening pain or swelling, unusual drainage/pus, fever, severe burning or another significant reaction should be evaluated promptly by an appropriate healthcare professional.

NEXT SESSION

Sessions are scheduled approximately 5-6 weeks apart and only once the area has healed appropriately and has been reassessed. The number of sessions required varies.

Questions or concerns? Contact Moxie Tattoo. For symptoms suggesting infection or a significant reaction, contact an appropriate healthcare professional rather than waiting for a tattoo follow-up.
