No, we do not offer piercing but I can recommend places. We do offer a variety of jewelry in the shop.
How do I take care of my tattoo?- AFTERCARE
Leave the tattoo derm on for 2-3 days. It will fill up with fluid and look nasty. This is normal.
You can shower like normal just try to avoid too much water hitting your tattoo.
On the 3rd day, remove the tattoo derm in the shower (allow tattoo derm to fill with water &/or use baby oil to help remove), clean with a fragrance free soap and Pat dry with a paper towel.
Allow the tattoo to breathe for 30-60mins.
Once the derm is off, DO NOT cover it again.
Apply a super thin layer of aquaphor or suggested aftercare ointment (Redemption sold in shop) (rub in like lotion- less is more) 2-3x per day for 2-3 days. Clean your tattoo with warm water and fragrance free soap morning and night for 4-5 days. After that use a fragrance free lotion 2-3x per day for 1.5-2 weeks. If you are using Redemption aftercare you can continue to use it for the remainder of your healing process.
Avoid swimming, hot tubs, tanning beds, beaches and prolonged sun exposure for about a month until your tattoo is fully healed and no longer shiny.
Tattoos generally heal in 2 weeks.
Once healed, use at least an spf 30 when you’re out in the sun.
It will get itchy during the healing process. DO NOT pick or itch your tattoo, it can lift the ink out.
Do you take Walk-Ins?
I am generally appointment only but on rare occasions if I have a cancellation I will post on my instagram and facebook that I am taking walk-ins that day. This is first come first serve unless a deposit is given.
Do you Tattoo Minors?
Although Minors are allowed to get tattooed in the state of Florida with parental consent and proper paperwork. I have decided that we will no longer be tattooing minors.
How early in advance should I book an appointment?
With Jocelyn “Moxie”-
I tend to be booked about 1.5-2 months in advance. I only book 2 months out from the month that we are currently in. If you are planning a vacation or need a date further out, I can do a tentative appointment. I put you on my schedule as a place holder but no deposits or promises are made. You will be asked for a deposit about 1- 2 months prior to your appointment.
Do you do Friday the 13th Tattoos?
No, but on occasion I do offer festive tattoo flash designs for discounted prices. Follow me on my instagram to see when I am doing tattoo flash offers, Instagram and Facebook @moxietattoo
Do you do cover ups/ reworks/ touch other artist’s work?
YES! I do a lot of these, a consultation is required for these types of appointments.
Medical conditions/ medications
What medications/conditions will prevent me from getting tattooed?
(I am constantly doing research to learn about new medications and conditions, your safety will always be my primary concern. If you are currently on any medications you are unsure of, you should check the side effects or ask your doctor prior to scheduling an appointment)
You should NOT get tattooed if you are on any of these types of medications or have any of these conditions. I WILL require you to speak to your doctor if I am unsure about anything.
-ANY blood thinners or anticoagulants, including Lexapro
-CBD and THC act as anticoagulants, please avoid taking before your appointment
-Antibiotics- should be off them for at least 2 weeks
- If you are on Blood Pressure Medication please know the risks- it is possible that you can swell and bleed more than what’s considered normal.
-ANY oral medications to help heal acne or skin conditions- Accutane, Doxycycline
-Any medication that may reduce your white blood cell count- Mavenclad
-AVOID- aspirin and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen (Motrin IB, Advil, others) and naproxen sodium (Aleve), thin the blood and decrease blood clotting
- Anastrazole (for treatment of breast cancer) blocks estrogen which affects skin collagen production and elasticity.
-AVOID- excessive caffeine
-if you are nursing or pregnant
-if you have any visible rash or skin condition in the area to be tattooed
-people who are diabetic should NOT get their lower extremities tattooed
-if your skin bruises easily or you have very thin delicate skin
-if you are badly sunburned and/or have peeling skin in the area to be tattooed
I want a tattoo in a private area on my body. What can I expect?
At Moxie Tattoo your comfort takes precedence. We do not tattoo genitals. If you are getting tattooed in a more private area of your body, I recommend wearing the appropriate clothing for the area. For example, a zip up hoodie worn backwards for back tattoos. Wear pasties to your appointment for sternum/chest pieces, please know that they will most likely get dirty and need to be disposed of after your appointment. We can also use disposable sheets/bibs to cover any unwanted exposed areas. There is a room dividing curtain for extra privacy. Also a sign will be posted on the door stating that a private tattoo is in session, the door will be locked and the blinds will be closed for the entirety of your appointment to ensure your privacy and safety. If ever you feel uncomfortable, please be vocal about it. Your comfort is of the utmost importance to us. If you have any questions regarding your tattoo placement, please feel free to contact us prior to your appointment.
Can you put my loved ones ashes into the tattoo ink for my tattoo? Is it safe?
Yes, it is safe and I can do this for you. Cremated ashes were burned at temperatures over 1,750 degrees Fahrenheit. This virtually eliminates the chance of infection, though the exact sterility of cremated ashes have not been extensively studied.
Black ink is generally derived from the soot of charred animal bones, but the vegan one is made from a pigment extracted from logwood. Similarly, the pigment carrier solutions were traditionally made from animal fat (glycerin) but now they're also being derived from plant-based fats (glycerol).
If you would like to add this service to your appointment, there will be an additional charge of $10 (extra tattoo ink and ink bottle). You will get your own small bottle of ink (not completely full) that the ashes will be added to. You can take this ink home with you and other family members can use it as well.
Do you offer Ultra Violet/ Black Light tattoos?
YES while supplies last. I have been wanting to use this ink for a long time but every time I researched it, I didn’t feel safe using it. After waiting and doing research about it for years, UV ink is no longer made containing phosphorous and is now safe to use! This ink will be used for highlights/ accents only. Adding this service to your tattoo will be an additional charge of $40. Additional consent forms will be required. (UV FLASHLIGHT INCLUDED- batteries are not included- while supplies last)
Are tattoo inks Vegan?
Not all tattoo inks are vegan, we primarily use Eternal ink and Fusion ink which ARE VEGAN and derived from plants.
How do you feel about numbing cream?
As long as you use what I recommend, I do not mind at all. I only recommend products that I have used on myself. Ebanel 520 Numb is a great product to use prior to the skin being broken (before your tattoo starts). You can purchase this on Amazon or in the shop. If you choose to use this please let me know prior to your appointment so I can make sure you’re using it correctly.
Here are some general instructions-
-
clean the area with soap and water.
-
Shave the area to be tattooed and surrounding area to open the pores.
-
Apply a liberal amount of numbing cream including surrounding areas.
-
Wrap with plastic wrap.
-
Leave this on 2-3 hours prior to your appointment.
-
Please note that this lasts for about 45 mins to 1 hour.
Once the skin is broken (and the linework in complete) I have other products I can use to help alleviate pain. Bactine Max is a topical spray that we use. It is free of charge and lasts for about 45 minutes. The more broken the skin, the better the product works. I also offer Vasocaine, this product is a $10 up charge and may be used only 3x per session (recommended for longer sessions in difficult areas).
Please note that numbing DOES NOT mean pain free. The products do wear off and you will need to tough it out. If you have any questions regarding numbing products please feel free to reach out prior to your appointment.
Touch Up Policy
Touch ups are free within the first month. If an appointment is unable to be scheduled due to being booked, an appointment further out can be made with a note that the touch up is free as long as contacted within the 1 month time frame. If the touch up time frame has been exceeded you will be asked to pay shop minimum, which is $120.
What we recommend, while you’re getting another project done, ask us to do your touch up for you then, while I already have your set up out. You will most likely get your touch up for free or for a discounted price.
